History of CSU Cincinnati Alumni Chapter

 

In the late 1970's, Harold Powell, C/0 '53, served as President of the chapter and Major McNeil, C/0 '64, served as the Vice President. Arlevia Powell, C/0 53, served as Recording Secretary. Major McNeil became President after Harold Powell's tenure came to a close.

In the early 1980's, Caleb Brown, C/0 '70, was elected President of the chapter, and Laura (Lolly) Sanders, C/0 '71, served in a dual role as Vice President and Secretary.

In the late '80's, John Jackson, C/0 '69, was elected to serve as President of our Cincinnati Alumni Chapter, and Laura (Lolly) Sanders served as Secretary. Gillis Bowden, C/0 '77, served for a term as President, and shortly thereafter; Caleb Brown again took the helm as President; Laura (Lolly) Sanders served as Vice President, and Deloris Henry, C/0 '70, served as Financial Secretary and Treasurer. Gillis Bowden again assumed the duties of President and Mary Reed, C/0 53, served as Financial Secretary, and Melvina Musgrave, C/0 '69, served as Recording Secretary.

Circa 1989-90, John Jackson returned as President, Laura (Lolly) Sanders as Vice President, and Deloris Henry as Treasurer. Shortly after Deloris Henry's tenure, Gary Dowdell, C/0 '74, served as Treasurer for several years. In 1993, Dennis McNeal, C/0 '66, was elected Treasurer and served honorably and tirelessly for thirty years! Gillis Bowden returned as President for one year, and once again, Caleb Brown was elected to serve at the helm from the early 1990's until 2017. During part of that time, Jerry McDaniel served as Vice President, and Laura (Lolly) Sanders was elected Secretary.

Juan Bailey, C/0 '85, became President in 2018 and was succeeded by Yancy Jones, C/0 88 in 2020. April Barker-Casey C/0 94 served as Vice President under both these Presidents, and Mykish Summers C/0 04 served as Secretary. Our current officers are Juan Bailey, President; Mykish Summers, Vice Presiident; April Barker-uasey, Secretary, Alia· Williams-Tolbert Treasurer, Lawanda Kinny C/0 90 Sgt at Arms, and Dennis Mc Neal Financial Secretary.
 
The Central State University Cincinnati Star Alumni Chapter has hosted the Annual Meeting of the National Alumni Association in the following years: 1975, 1985, 1995, 2010, and 2018.
